Blogs
Going into this English class I had no idea I would be blogging. I always heard people say that they had blogs but I never really knew the concept. I have to say that overall I wish I would have continuously kept up with my blog posts and continued to post even when it was not required. I have found that blogs are more than just a diary to let feeling or thoughts out on paper because that’s always what I assumed they were. But after reading blogs from all over the world this semester, I see that they are much more about Worldly topics that create discussions between people. I think it is a great idea to blog, especially as freshman in college as your writing continues to develop.
Help!
I was reading Just Smile's Blog and the article she had written titled "Spring Break-itis." It automatically made me think of myself and what I have been going through these last two weeks of school. From not being able to get up in the morning to actually going to class and doing my work, I can’t figure out what is going on! My friends and I keep saying to ourselves, “We’re getting our lives together today!” This usually means I sit down and make a list of everything I need to do and when I need to do it by. I hate doing this however because then I get stressed because of how long the list is. It is funny because in high school I would be at dance until 9:30PM at night and wouldn’t get home until about 10:15. College hours this means nothing now but then it was pretty late considering I still had all of my homework to do and to wake up at 6AM. Being so busy and getting little sleep, I was still passionate about my work and made sure that I did well. Lately though, this is not the case at all! I am still getting little sleep at night, can’t find myself doing my work as well as not being able to get myself to class. Honestly there is no excuse why I am doing this because it is up to me to decide whether or not I go out that night or if I should go to the library instead. All I can say is that I am so ready to move out of the dorms and go home for the summer!! I love school but can tell its time for something new.
True Friends or Not?
I came across Audblog's post about friendships and whether or not the friends you have are true or if they are just there to go out to the party with you that night. Read about what I wrote about the article, Frienships, Quality vs. Quantity?, here: http://audbloggerblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/friendship-quality-not-quantity.html
Parents and Raising Their Children by Themselves
Earlier this Spring I put my name on my sorority’s babysitting list. Now that Summer is approaching I am getting at least two e-mails day from families in the Highland Park area looking for summer nanny’s. Coming from a small town I had never heard of such a thing. On average, the kids ages in all the e-mails range from about age two to age six and every one so far has had two children or more. I understand needing help during the day if both the parents are at work or something but this last e-mail just through me for a loop. The mother was looking for somebody to fly out to the Bahamas with the family for the month of June. Apparently every summer they move down there for the month of June and are looking for a girl to help take care of the kids during the day as well at night. The nanny would get one day off a week as well as a weekend if friends were in town and such.
As this job would be so much fun I have to kind of wonder what parenthood is coming to these days. To be at the beach with your husband and two children for a month, you would think that one would not need help taking care of the kid’s right? No wonder our generation and the young children growing up now have more mental issues as well as bad relationships with their parents. And whatever happened to Moms wanting to raise and teach their children the lessons in life? One of my friends here at SMU comes from a family of five where she is the second oldest. Her younger brother was practically raised by their nanny and the mom finally knew it was time to step in and help raise the son when he started to have an Argentinean accent like the nanny. It is stories such as these two that really make me question the future of parenthood and our society.

Religion Taken Too Far
I was reading through various blogs this weekend and came across one written by Interesting Point discussing the crucifixions that occured in the Phillipines over the Easter weekend. Read what I had to say about it all here, http://interestingpoint.blogspot.com/2008/03/crucifixions-in-philippines.html.
